Extracurricular Activities
Private Lessons
Private lessons are offered at Country Day in piano, drama, or voice. The lessons are held once a week during the student’s P.E. time. Tennis lessons are also available and are held three times a week for 30 minutes for students in grades PK – 4 and twice a week for one hour for students in grades 5 – 8, also during their P.E. time.
Clubs
Jr. Beta Club - ACDS’s Junior Beta Club chapter was created to recognize high academic achievement, promote character and social responsibility, encourage service involvement to school and community, foster leadership skills, and provide settings for your child to develop interpersonal relationship skills. A set number of service hours must be acquired annually by volunteering both within the school and the local community. Students in grades six through eight are invited to join the Junior Beta Club.
Student Council - ACDS’s Student Council represents the students’ voice at Country Day. It is designed to promote better student-teacher relationships, provide students an active voice in student government, promote participation is school activities and school unity, sponsor projects that will provide funds to be used in purchasing needed items for the school, and to assume responsibility for school dances. Students in grades six through eight may run for office for the Student Council.
4-H Club - 4-H is a national youth development organization that empowers young people to reach their full potential. Our 4-H Club is a dynamic non-formal education program that helps develop life skills in today’s youth and is available to students in grades four through eight. Head, Heart, Hands and Health are the 4-H’s which represent the four-fold training and development that members receive.
We encourage our members are to choose at least one project to complete during the year. Project themes include animal science, environmental education, energy & machines, health/foods/fitness, child development/family life, personal development, and outdoor skills/shooting sports. Members are also encouraged to participate in various community service projects throughout the year. There are also a number of activities offered on parish and state levels, such as the fair, achievement day, and various contests and camps.
ACDS 4-H meetings are held monthly after school and are conducted by the student officers. Our current club consists of approximately 35 members and is growing stronger each year. The ACDS 4-H club has been awarded 2nd place as “Outstanding 4-H Club” in Rapides Parish for the past three years.
Fellowship of Christian Students FCS is a student led organization in which 7th and 8th grade students come together once a week to pray, share Bible passages and inspirational readings, and discuss their faith. The group meets every Friday morning at 7:30. During that time one student shares a lesson that he or she has prepared and prayer concerns are gathered and discussed, and the meeting ends with a group prayer. FCS also gathers for special events such as “Meet me at the Pole” and National Day of Prayer. It is open to any and all students who wish to gather together with other students in a Christ-centered, fun and laid back atmosphere.
Cheerleading - Alexandria Country Day School offers 6th, 7th, and 8th grade girls the opportunity to represent our school as a cheerleader. The basketball season runs from September to December. In addition, ACDS offers cheerleaders the chance to compete on an elite cheer squad which participates in local competitions.
ACDS Cocurricular Activities
Mathcounts – Mathcounts is an organization which offers fun and interesting activities in math for students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Students meet weekly during the fall semester. After the Christmas Holidays, students who will compete in district and state math competitions meet on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings to prepare for these events.
Student Literary Magazine – Interested 8th grade students may join the magazine staff which publishes creative works by ACDS students. All 5th – 8th grade students are eligible to contribute creative writing for publication..
