We take pride at ACDS in having created a rigorous academic program in the
context of a caring and committed environment. Opportunities for student
achievement exist beyond the classroom. Our students have historically excelled
in the following academic endeavors:
- The ACDS 4-H Club members won numerous awards at the
Rapides Parish 4-H Awards Night. Country Day was presented with the Blue
Ribbon winner in the 100th Anniversary 4-H Club Pennant Contest, Award of
Excellence for Outstanding Club Meetings for the Year, Award of Excellence for
Most Improved Club, Champion for Parish Jr. High Club Scrapbook, and second
place Outstanding & Best All Around Club in Rapides Parish Jr. High Division.
- In the Arkansans-Louisiana-Mississippi Math League
Competition, the sixth grade team placed 4th in the region and 24th in the
tri-state league, the seventh grade team placed 4th in the region and 27th in
the tri-state league, and the eighth grade team placed 3rd in the region and
13th in the tri-state league. Country Day students also placed second and
third individually in regional competition, and one student place 17th in the
tri-state league.
- Two Country Day students have been selected for
outstanding art achievement. One was selected by Youth People's Choice
Award at the Central Louisiana Arts and Healthcare Follies and Art Exhibit.
The other student's artwork was selected to appear on the cover of the local
phonebook.
- In 2006-2007, of the 63 seventh graders, 33 took the ACT for determining
qualification for
Duke University Talent Identification Program and 26 received honors.
Twenty-three students received state honors and three received national honors.
In 2007-2008, 25 tested and 15 received honors. Fourteen students received
state honors, and one received national honors.
- Country Day has consistently had students place first in district thus
qualifying for state
High School
Literary Rally. In 2007-2008, two students placed first in state in
Division V, and one student placed first overall in the entire state of
Louisiana.
- Country Day also had seven students named to the District
II Sixth Grade Honor Choir and six students named to the District II Junior High
School Honor Choir.
- Alexandria Country Day was named the most outstanding school in the Junior
Division of the Louisiana Regional Science & Engineering Fair. A Country
Day student was awarded the most outstanding entry in the Junior Division. ACDS also had 12 students receive first place honors, 11 students receive second
place honors, 8 students receive third place honors, and 6 students receive
honorable mention in this division. Numerous students received special awards
for meritorious projects. ACDS also had one student place first, one
student place second, six students place third, and four receive
honorable mention at the Louisiana State Science & Engineering Fair.
- Country Day placed first overall in the 2008
Louisiana School for Math, Science, & the Arts Math Competition. In
addition, the two teams earned the second-place and third-place team awards. ACDS also had one student place in the top five in the individual competition.
- Country Day place first in the 2008 regional MATHCOUNTS
competition, and a Country Day student placed first in the individual
competition. A sixth grade student placed first in the individual alternate
competition. The team went on to state MATHCOUNTS competition and placed fifth
overall as a team.
- ACDS also had a student place second overall in the
state-level National Geographic Society's Geographic Bee.
- After competing in regional
Science Olympiad, Country Day qualified for state competition where two teams
placed first, one placed second, and one placed third.
- ACDS had five students receive awards in the VFW essay
contest.
